A Message From Jonah and Ruth

REMEMBERING LUCY – ALL OUR THANKS

I cannot remember a sadder event than the loss of our daughter Lucy Jones after only two hours of life on 19th November 2002.  Ruth and I have taken great comfort from the support and best wishes of our friends within Aardvarks MHC and the wider hockey community.

The dedication of the match on 23rd November to Lucy’s memory was very much appreciated.  Only time will heal our pain but with the strength gained from such friends as those we have we Aardvarks, we have a good chance of coming through this.

PS.  Thanks to those Aardvarks who attended Lucy’s funeral and for the kind wishes we have received since.

Thanks.  Love Ruth and Jonah

Awards for All ? – Not really, just PLAYERS of the SEASON

BARRS and BATES TAKE TOP AWARDS (at multi-venue event)

It was a double success for the B’s as Alister Bates and Jayne Barrs claimed the 2001/2002 Player of the Season Awards at the presentations (spread between Plough – Ratby, the Leake’s at Wanlip and Guthlaxton – Wigston).

Jayne Barrs won the Ladies Players of the season award for the first time, pipping Julia Leake (2nd) and Katherine Chapman (3rd).  Jayne was surprised but pleased.

Alister Bates also got his hands on the coverted Player of the Season award for the first time.  He managed to beat 2000/2001 award winner, Martin Leake (2nd) and Richard Sharpe (3rd) to the trophy.  The words ‘surprised’ and ‘pleased’ can be used to describe Alister’s response to the award.

Long service awards were also presented to the original members Angela McGreevy (97 appearances and once Ladies Captain); Paul McGreevy (165 appearances, 88 goals, Player of the Season (a number of times) and long time Treasurer) and Andy Dent (114 appearances, record consecutive appearances and influential Chairman).  All were pleased and surprised with their awards.

JONAH
